amish friendship bread friday


finally, baking day has arrived! after nine days of bag mashing and one day of ingredient adding, today is the day my amish friendship bread starter transforms into bread. yum! maybe it's the crunchy sugar topping on the outside or the soft, moist bread on the inside. or maybe it's the fact that this starter began way before me, mashing and transforming its way thru warm kitchens and loving hands of friends and friends of friends. although you can make starter from scratch, it's almost in the receiving that it takes on a deeper meaning. if you've ever had the blessing of having amish friendship bread starter passed onto you, i hope you share the process of making it with your family and revel in the beauty of what it feels/sounds like: the quiet resonance of friendships. thank you melissa!
